AC Shadows Unveils Surprising AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a surprising crossover event that challenges traditional predictions, Ubisoft has announced an virtual partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Questline Revealed
According to the authorized announcement, "An unusual meeting draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where whispers of prohibited rituals and terrifying transformations reverberate through the shadows." The storyline features a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a clandestine cult.
The questline focuses on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Settings and Transformations
The trailer features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser concludes with a striking moment showing a character, presumably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Rewards and Additional Material
Players who finish the mission will obtain an special katana together with several items hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-inspired costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Unique weapons
- Survey Corps mount
Third Free Story Addition
This release also adds the game's third free story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful quest pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap characteristic skills: Naoe reveals a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also features a original environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Collaborations
This marks scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with famous anime properties. The series formerly showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that unmistakably echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
