Amateur players are getting the possibility to earn A$1m when they compete against world-class athletes - including leading player Carlos Alcaraz - in a single-point showdown before the year's first major

Organizers of the Melbourne major have revealed the Seven-Figure Quick-Fire Competition, which will pit everyday competitors against 22 professionals in a elimination competition at Melbourne Park

How the Event Will Work

Competitors are set to play 'the classic hand game' to decide who serves or receives, and the competitor securing the point will progress to the following stage

The victor of the event will receive £490,000

For comparison, players who reached the final four of the primary tournaments in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

The New York major hosted a revamped, standalone combined gender tournament in late summer which encouraged top singles players to compete, with the victors receiving a million-dollar prize

Competition Details

Organizers have not specified precisely how the event will function, but it is anticipated to emulate a similar format to the most recent iteration

The top competitors will be granted to serve once and the everyday players twice - as is the usual procedure in conventional tennis

While it is uncertain how the bracket will work, there will be five knockout rounds and the venue will be the primary court rather than the alternative court

The concluding rounds will take place in a nighttime schedule instead of early afternoon

Participation Information

Domestic competitors - or international players who have enrolled with Tennis Australia - can compete in 'One Point Slam' events at their local tennis clubs

The victors of the grassroots tournaments will then go into a random pairing, with a single non-professional from every region and area selected to participate in the 'final competition' in a nighttime event on Wednesday, 14 January

There will also be a entry tournament in late year which everyday players, aspiring competitors, celebrities and athletic celebrities can enter

It begins on Monday, 12 January and the two winners will go into Wednesday's 'grand finale' with the other eight amateurs and top-ranked athletes
