McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I have a unique position here at a special team. And we're at a crucial phase of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Context and Contractual Details

It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely all people has to go around and declare what they were, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his reported buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the former Wales striker is inclined to complete the current World Cup qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of making those, thanks to a productive Nations League campaign, should they not end up Group J runners-up.

Considering his current stance, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the play-offs at the minimum.
