Russell Wilson Responds at Ex-Mentor Sean Payton Regarding Quarterback Remarks
NY Giants quarterback Russell Wilson didn't mince words on social media this Tuesday, reacting to latest criticism from his former coach Sean Payton.
"Classless... but not shocked...," Wilson stated on X. "Had no idea you're still offering rewards 15+ years later through the media."
Wilson's response directly referenced the infamous Bounty Gate issue from 2009 to 2011, when Payton led the Saints.
During that period, the league found that the Saints had rewarded team members for delivering aggressive tackles on opponents. Consequently, Payton received a suspension from the league for a full year.
The Cause of the Recent Exchange
The quarterback's response came after Payton delivered remarks following the Broncos' remarkable 33-32 victory over the New York. Payton suggested that the team had "found a little spark" with Jaxson Dart, who has taken over Wilson as the starting quarterback.
Moreover, Payton implied that he had told Giants owner John Mara that he would prefer facing Wilson instead of Dart.
"I was talking to John Mara recently and I said, 'We were hoping that the switch would've happened long after our game,'" the coach commented.
Context of the Coach-QB Partnership

- The team went 4-11 in his debut year prior to the team hired Payton, who was coming back to coaching after a stint in broadcasting.
