Teacher Killed and 25 Girls Abducted in Armed Clash at Educational Institution in Nigeria
Gun-wielding individuals have killed a teacher and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an raid targeting a female high school in the northwestern part of Nigeria, according to police.
The armed faction breached the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State's Maga area at approximately 04:00 local time on the start of the week, officials stated.
The assailants "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a gun duel" before breaching the school's outer barrier and seizing the students from their dormitory, according to a statement.
A school employee was killed while trying to protect the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now receiving treatment.
Eyewitnesses described a sizeable number of assailants, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who came shooting randomly to create fear.
Community members disclosed to media that the attackers afterwards forced a number of girls into adjacent wilderness.
The police said they had deployed "supplementary tactical squads, in coordination with armed forces and local protection units" to the area.
