The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
