The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
